Overview

Is Sunday a special day for Christians? Or is it just like any other day—a day on which we can do whatever we want? In this booklet, Jonathan Holdt gives ten essential reasons why Christians need to celebrate Sunday as the Lord’s Day, urging us to rediscover the immense joys and benefits of keeping this day special.

The Author
Jonathan Holdt is currently pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Pretoria, South Africa. He is married to Adele and has three children, Joshua, Charissa and Andrew. Having been converted at the age of twenty-two in 1992, Jonathan sensed a call to the ministry and began his theological training at London Theological Seminary in 1995. He began his first pastorate at Hillcrest Baptist Church, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, in 1997, which he pastored for seven years. His passion is to see Christ glorified in the church through people being saved and then built up in their faith.

Endorsements
Jonathan Holdt has provided for us a pastorally thoughtful and sensitive defense of the Fourth Commandment written in a spirit of love. I cannot recommend this too highly.
Derek W. H. Thomas PhD (Lampeter), John E. Richards Professor of Systematic and Practical Theology, Minister of Teaching, First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, MS and Editorial Director, Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals

At a time when not only the Scriptures but the decalogue is under attack, Jonathan’s well-reasoned arguments for honouring the fourth commandment is to be welcomed. There was never a time when the case for keeping Sunday special was so necessary and this booklet promises to be an enormous help to many, many Christians who need such a confirmation of a vital truth. The booklet needs wide circulation for it will be a great incentive to confirm and restore a belief and a practice which will bring untold blessings to those who remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy.
Martin Holdt, Senior Minister of Constantia Park Baptist Church, South Africa, and Rector of the Afrikaans Baptist Seminary

The author's informal comments: 'Why I wrote this booklet'
I am also excited about a booklet of mine that has been published called “Celebrating Sundays.” It contains 10 reasons why we as Christians need to keep the Lord’s Day special. The amazing thing was that I never intended it to be published. I initially wrote it for our own church but God had other plans. Having sent it to a good friend in the United Kingdom for critique and evaluation he decided to send it to Day One publications. Much to my delight and joy they decided to publish it as a booklet in a magazine format. My prayer is that it will be widely used as a ministry tool by pastors to encourage their people and new members of the importance of keeping the Lord’s Day special. This could not be more needed today as we see how much Christians have begun compromising here for the sake of work, sport and other purposes. The church is spiritually weaker for it unless the trend is reversed. I pray this booklet may be used by God to speak into the hearts of many Christians and give them a renewed zeal for keeping the Lord’s Day special.  Please join me in prayer for this.
